I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

If water is leaking, turn the water off at the nearest service valve or at the mains tap outside. If you cannot locate the main valve or a tap to the appliance, then turn on the cold taps inside and out to help depressurise the system and minimise the leak.

Once that is sorted, give our plumber a ring, whatever the day or time is. We will be there rapidly to fix the leak.

While you wait for our emergency plumber to arrive, clear away any significant items, mop up any water, and put a bucket to catch drips. You should also switch off the hot water heating if the main water is turned off.

Help, I don’t know where the main water shutoff valve is!
